Death's Door

10:00 p.m. every Tue. @ The Garret at Grand Central

Description

Ever at home on a Tuesday night, sinking into the sofa, thinking, Damn, I really wish I was raving right now?

Well, if you answered, "Hell yes," then you're in luck! And leave it to Miami's own King's Head Records -- the electronic music label that boasts boss Ben Wash, Culture Prophet, and Treznik among its membership -- to cultivate a new kind of weekly throwdown. Dubbed Death's Door, this dark and sexy dance party will happen every Tuesday night at The Garret at Grand Central.

"We all think there's something really special about Grand Central," King's Head vice president Lauren Ann Wolfe says. "And I think that The Garret provides a really nice boutique space for a crowd to go in and enjoy and dance. Look at the history -- it used to be an old train station. It has a lot of character."

The thing that will set Death's Door apart from other weekly parties -- which Wolfe admits she feels are slowly but surely fizzling out -- is the engagement of all five senses.

Of course, the King's Head crew will be luring some of the most desirable acts on the electronic dance music scene. ("We really specialize in reaching out to DJs that are a little more well known," the vice prez says, "and have a bigger following.") But there will be other layers to the party, helping to create that mysterious yet enticing Death's Door vibe.

"We have go-go dancers every week, which is really fun, because you have another element," Wolfe points out. "Like, whether they have LED lights on or are wearing bondage, there's always that kind of eye candy."

Every edition of Death's Door will also include theatrical flourishes, like the arrival of an undead king who saunters through The Garret as old-timey films are projected onto the walls of the club.

And like King's Head Records itself, this new Death's Door weekly party "is not just music," Wolfe says. "It's an entire platform for artists and musicians to come together."
