Cape Florida State Recreation

Map & Directions 1200 Crandon Blvd.
Key Biscayne, FL 33149

Miami New Times' Description

Key Biscayne is one of those places where none of us spend enough time. This breathtaking little island offers all kinds of wonders, of which Cape Florida State Recreation is one. This lighthouse, part of Bill Baggs State Park, stands 95-feet-tall as a throwback to Miami's days gone by. Built in 1825, it's the oldest structure still standing in Miami-Dade. Climb the spiral stairs for an unsurpassed 360 degree view of, well, everything. The 305 and beyond.

Take the light house tour, beautiful views, but do it early as its only open from 10 to 1.

The best snorkeling spot that I've tried thus far has been by the rocks that reach out past the shore next to the lighthouse. One time a manatee swam right past me! All sorts of interesting wildlife.

I love coming to the beach here. The kids love that the beach has no waves and it's not very deep. Not to mention it's very picturesque with the lighthouse in the background.

Love this place. You can stay the entire day, bike ride, go to the beach, barbeque - awesome!

Uncover the many hidden bicycle trails at the Bill Baggs State. Request a map from the park ranger at the main entrance.
