Mercadito, with locations in New York and Chicago, brings innovative Mexican cooking to the booming midtown Miami neighborhood. This sleek, upscale Mexican eatery has ample outdoor seating that extends beyond the doors of an airy dining room. Service is friendly but slow. Fortunately, the drink menu is extensive, making the wait quite tolerable. Entrées, or "platos fuertes," include chile relleno ($21.50), steak Tampiqueña ($24.50), and enchiladas verdes ($21.50). Taco selections ($14.50 each) include the traditional pastor, carnitas, and mole, as well as some new variations called estilo baja (fish) and rajas (black bean hash). An extensive guacamole menu offers unique combinations such as apple, tomatillo, almond, and habanero. There's also mole poblano with plantain and pico de gallo. Choose one for $8.50 or three for $13.50. Happy-hour specials and all-you-can-eat taco deals are available at various times and days.

If you wanna listen to the certified medical professionals, booze isn't a reliable preventative or cure-all for ailments such as the common cold, seasonal flu, or imminent plague à la H1N1. They say it kills your liver, sends you into deep dehydration, and numbs you to the actual symptoms of your illness. But we call bullshit. Really, what the hell do those quacks know? As habitual heavy drinkers, we've done the research and we can testify to the magical medicinal effects of alcohol.... More »
