Not the best ramen in the city, but a solid and utilitarian place to kill a craving. At lunchtime the place is filled with Japanese students and businesspeople slurping down the springy yellow noodles in various broths, like spicy miso, salt, seaweed, or pork bone. Toppings include sliced pork belly, scallions, bamboo, or a wonderfully gooey soft-poached egg.
Relative newcomer Menkui Tei would be welcome if only because it's an excellent source of cheap eats on Cooper Square, but the place gives Tokyo La Men a run for its money when it comes to punning with ramen, recognized in Japan as an alien import from China, but also beloved as a source of quick nutrition.
