This modest mainstay of the Elmhurst cheap eats scene provides voluminous and mind-bogglingly cheap meals for around $5. These include a mountain of white rice, plus your choice of four dishes chosen from a steam table of 36 selections and spooned up for you by attendants. There are fried fish in profusion, shrimp, steamed greens with garlic, kim chee, soy-braised chicken, deep-fried eggs (!), and assorted stir-fries. The vast range of ethnic types among the customers at Mei Wei Kitchen is reason enough to visit, suggesting there's nobody that doesn't like Chinese food.
