The well-regarded Indian restaurant Ruchi changed owners and name: It is now Mayuri. The menu and the quality of the food remains the same. The lengthy menu defies easy summary, but expect to find topnotch renditions of many Indian favorites (lamb vindaloo and tandoori chicken), as well as such less common dishes as kheema masala(minced lamb with peas) and bhendi masala, an okra stir-fry. Chile freaks, rejoice: The Andhra chicken curry is one of the hottest dishes you will encounter, anywhere. The lunch buffet offers an impressive variety of dishes frequently replenished.
Gut Check has been looking back on the Riverfront Times Best of St. Louis 2012, but we're also keeping an eye on the Best of St. Louis 2013 by nominating finalists for our awards this fall. To see hun... More »
Is it cheating to name the whole buffet rather than a single dish? Well, it is my list. And I never spelled out the rules. (There are a few.) But the buffet is why I return to Mayuri again and again. ... More »
Time to close the book on another year of reviews. While there were few splashy restaurant openings this year — in fact, three of the places in this year's list aren't new — I still struggled to restrict my selection to only ten dishes. If any... More »
The Andhra chicken curry at Mayuri is named for Andhra Pradesh, the state on India's southeast coast that some claim offers the nation's hottest cuisine. Having yet to travel through India, I can't vouch for that statement, but I did note that... More »
If you really are craving for a Bad Service, This place is epitome of the Bad Service. The Owner is rude, the waiters they have are untrained. This restaurant should be closed, as i saw many incidents of unsafe environment and the Cleanliness was no where.
When this used to be called Ruchi, I think it was certainly one of the best Indian restaurant in the town. Ever since new management came. they have brought the standard down, so bad, i think Food Safety inspectors should seriously look into this.
This is the first restaurant i found where owner determines what gratuity to be charged to customers at exorbitant rate, even when there is no Table service, It was all buffet. food quality was bad and It had no taste, food on the Floor and someone is going to have a bad accident someday, as I almost slipped on the Sambar on Ground.
Bad, BAD Bad in all respects. And the Owner should go for training in Customer Service and Food Safety.
I would Rate them the worst restaurant in St. Louis.
The buffet they have at lunch is the most amazing thing I've ever seen, and then later tasted. Great for first timers! :)
This is, by far, the best Indian lunch buffet in the St. Louis metro area. They have the widest variety of dishes to select from and the selection changes daily. If you are looking for a place to try Indian for the first time, this is the place to do it!! I've been eating here for about 5 years now, since it was Ruchi, and drive all the way from IL to eat here, at least monthly! They almost always have several rice dishes to choose from, usually at least 2 or 3 vegetarian dishes, a soup, of course naan and tandoori chicken, several deserts and a good variety of condiments as well. Oh, and they always have a jug of Mango Lassi to sweeten the heat, if spice is too much to handle! ENJOY! :)
When the Indian restaurant Ruchi became Mayuri in 2009, local fans of Indian cuisine worried. Ruchi was one of the area's best Indian restaurants -- this publication had dubbed it so in 2008 -- its large and varied lunch buffet especially beloved. Thankfully, the menu remained more or less the same, and the quality of the dishes and the variety of the buffet are as good as ever. Universal favorites such as chicken tikka masala, vindaloos and kormas are excellent, but Mayuri also... More »
