Description

You think you've eaten a hot dog until you try one of Maui's signature "All American" dogs. They're topped with a pile of great stuff you won't find anywhere else. First, a house-made mayonnaise blended with garlic and spices, and available as you like it in either mild, medium or hot temperatures. Next, a fruit relish is glopped on, in either mango, coconut, pineapple or banana flavors (or try all four, just for kicks!). Finally, a passion fruit mustard is spread on your slightly sweet and fluffy Hawaiian bun, a perfect compliment to a scrumptious Maui Dog. Additional toppings such as onions, cilantro, bacon, avocado, and chili are also on hand-or order a Maui Dog "shaggy style," and get it topped with the chef's signature Hawaiian coleslaw.

  • 2011 | Best Hot Dog

The hot dog is a wonder of utilitarian food work. Its simplicity is one of the reasons it has endured for years. But sometimes you get a wild urge, and dousing bun and meat tube with ketchup and mustard just won't cut it. That's when you go to Maui Dog, where culinary daredevil John Stamatakis pays tribute to the island flavors that inspired him, piling coconut, spicy mayo, and pineapple on his signature Maui Dog. It may sound like a strange proposition, but the combination of sweet, savory,... More »

  • 2010 | Best Fast Food

Crazy, island-style hot dogs and bratwurst served out of a funky surfer shack on Indian School Road have become our latest obsession. And although Maui Dog is just a humble little indie eatery, we wish we could find this on every street corner in town. What makes it so darn tasty? It's hard to explain how savory, juicy wieners go so well with garlicky, seasoned mayo, tropical fruit relish, passion fruit-flavored mustard, and other fresh toppings, but the idea just works. Just as good are the... More »
