Description

The tables and bar stools look like they've been dipped in candle wax, and there's a giant synthetic tree -- replete with flying birds -- that branches out in the middle of the room at Mario's Double Daughter's Salotto. The lounge that adjoins Mario's Two-Fisted Pizza and claims the same owners, the Salotto is a sensory treat with an agreeable happy hour and progressive DJs spinning every night of the week. Mario, you've such a lovely daughter.

  • 2012 | Best Shmoozer for Designers

Is Denver on the brink of becoming a notable national fashion center Some people think it could be just that, with the right kind of push. A circle of friends in the local fashion industry -- Tricia Hoke, Deb Henriksen, Lisa Elstun and Jose Duran -- got to wondering how they could draw the design community closer together to create a more cohesive front. Inspired by the success of Green Drinks, a shmoozer for folks in the environmental arena, they devised Red Drinks, a... More »

  • 2007 | Best Bar to Watch Japanese B-Movies

There's something about stepping inside Mario's Double Daughter's on a Sunday night that takes you to a completely different dimension. Dimly lit with subtle red and blue lights, the place is outfitted with chairs that look like they're made out of lipstick. As down-tempo grooves pour out of the speakers, a Japanese flick -- could be the one where some guy gets shot in the shoulder by a mini-rocket launcher and then rips the appendage off altogether -- is being projected on the club's big... • 2006 | BEST REASON TO GO OUT ON TUESDAY NIGHTS

Tuesday nights are tough. It's hard to justify hitting the town when there's still three days left of the work week. Still, sometimes a little tippling is in order. Self-Made is right there for you. The weekly salon, hosted by artist Katie Taft, brings in other local artists to talk about everything from how to market to how to manage the collaborative process. Plus there are cocktails and free hors d'oeuvre. Never feel guilty again for drinking on a Tuesday night. More »

  • 2004 | Best Strong Drink

What do you get when you combine seventeen liquors with a smidgen of water At Mario's Double Daughters, it's called Succo Vaffanculodi Mario, which translates roughly into English as "Mario's go-fuck-yourself juice." While the super-strong recipe is a well-guarded secret, the bright-red concoction is on display front and center in this whimsical LoDo bar, mocking weak stomachs as it gurgles in a glowing brass-and-steel tank riveted behind the long bar. If you're smart enough to pair the... More »

  • 2004 | Best Monday Night Chill-Out

Stepping into Mario's Double Daughters Salotto is like waking up from an overdose of LSD and Pop Rocks. The downtown bar has a trippy Alice in Wonderland-meets-City of Lost Children vibe that jells perfectly with Bare Witness, its Monday-night DJ residency. Selectors Ryan Mates and Zach Dunn -- aka Monke Man and Dr. Zen -- whip up a deep, smooth purée of electronic and reggae sounds that range from the kung-fu techno of Depth Charge to the august dub of King Tubby. Drinks aren't... More »

This bar has a relaxed theme that plays a mix of downtempo and house music. I like it.

I love this tim burton inspired bar! connected to two fisted marios for some late night grub- also, they serve absinthe and this crazy red thing that is held in a huge vat.
