Classy, upscale Italian spot where you'll find some of the best house-made pastas in town. Everything from gnocchi in tomato sauce and saffron linguini with clams to red and white strozzaprete (priest-stranglers) and black fettuccine with lobster. Fish and meat entrees are more expensive, but if you stick to the pasta, you won't be disappointed, and it won't wreck your checking account. For dessert, get the panna cotta, which is exceptionally thick and rich. And as a digestif, request the house-made limoncello, a liqueur that'll leave your stomach smiling.

Yesterday we ran part one of our Chef Chat with Chef Marcellino Verzino and his wife and partner, Sima, of Marcellino Ristorante. The couple believe that their restaurant is an extension of the... More »
Chef Marcellino Verzino is anything but average. While he's one of the best known Italian chefs in the state, his reputation extends across the world. Hailing from Italy, the cuisine featured at ... More »
A few months ago, owners Marcellino and Sima Verzino of Marcellino Ristorante announced that they were leaving their longtime home on Northern Ave. in Phoenix for classier digs in Scottsdale's S... More »
I've been jonesing of late for some really excellent house-made pasta. No doubt what brought this on was my slightly disappointing visit a couple of weeks back to the James Hotel's Fiamma Trattoria, where it seemed like everything but its... More »
This past year has been a busy one for Sima and Marcellino Verzino. The dynamic husband-and-wife team left their longtime digs on Northern Avenue in Phoenix (a humble strip mall that made discovering Marcellino's incredible Italian cuisine all the more delightful) for a much swankier setting on Scottsdale's Stetson Drive, at SouthBridge. Finally, the atmosphere really matches the caliber of the food. Unlike some well-known chefs in the Valley, chef Marcellino is a fixture in his own kitchen,... More »
You've heard of a "feel-good" movie? Marcellino is a feel-good restaurant -- dining here never fails to put a big grin on our face. The atmosphere is cozily elegant, a real jaw-dropper if you're here for the first time (alas, it's in a strip mall, so you really can't tell how cool this place is from the outside). Gracious staffers follow the lead of chef Marcellino Verzino and his wife Sima, who make customers feel like VIPs in an exclusive supper club where the wine keeps flowing and... More »
Marcellino Ristorante is a romantic fine-dining spot that transcends its inconspicuous location so well that you'll not only forget you're in a strip mall, you'll wonder whether you've stumbled through a magic portal straight to Italy. The authentic cuisine will suspend your disbelief, too. Sima Verzino will greet you warmly when you arrive, while her husband, chef Marcellino, works his culinary magic in the kitchen. Best known for his exquisite homemade pastas and vibrant sauces -- such... More »
How good are the handmade pastas at Marcellino's? So good we'd eat 'em off the men's room floor of a Chevron station, capisce? Marcellino Verzino is the real deal, a true Italian, who's owned and operated award-winning restaurants in both Rome and NYC. It's in Rome that he met his beautiful, vivacious partner-for-life, Sima, who runs the front of the house, while Marcellino busies himself with his artistry in the kitchen. Sure, if the guy wanted to, he might be able to get away with using a... More »
You will not nosh better pasta in town than at Marcellino Ristorante. Period. End of story. Yes, there are plenty of other high-class Italian joints in the Valley; maybe too many, if you catch our drift. And, yes, you can get your fill of semolina sticks elsewhere and feel satisfied with yourself for not spending too many ducats, but if you experience the handmade pastas at Marcellino's, what you eat elsewhere will seem like Chef Boyardee by comparison. That's because Chef Marcellino Verzino... More »
