Description

Maekawa is Seattle's first, and arguably its most authentic, izakaya. Izakayas are Japanese pubs that typically host a boisterous after-work crowd of businessmen and underage students. Here you won't find sushi but easy fare like tonkatsu, udon, and tempura. Drunk staples like takoyaki (octopus fritters) are served with pink bonito shavings; fish cakes arrive blanketed in bubbling cheese; and the food is more likely to come with a hefty dollop of mayonnaise than a bizarre garnish. Their ramen (not pho) is unmatched, if unchallenged, in Seattle. Mugs upon mugs of cold Sapporo are available to chase it all down.

Main Menu
Main

Maguro Sashimi
(5/5) extremely fresh! i was amazed how well this melted in my mouth. — jetleigh on jan 14, 2007

Kushikatsu With Miso Sauce
(4/5) deep-fried breaded pork or chicken cutlet with onions and your choice of miso or tonkatsu sauce. i had chicken with miso. it was very tasty and filling.

Yaki Nasu
(4/5) grilled eggplants with bonita flakes. simple yet juicy and good. eat it with a bit of the ginger and dip it in soy sauce

Albacore Tataki
(3/5) hmm, this wasn't the best seared tuna dish. nothing impressive tho it was ok-tasting. i wouldn't order it again. — gem67

Buta Kimchee Nabe
(3/5) i like my napa cabbage soggy so i felt they could've cooked it longer for that purpose..and for the flavor to seep through. it was a good dish to get, though: it warms you up from the inside out with just the right amount of spicyness

Karaage
(3/5) fried chicken, japanese style. i wish the chicken chunks were smaller but i really liked the thin breading and the citrusy yuzu dressing for dipping

Ramen
(3/5) i was a little disappointed with the ramen. they could use more ingredients besides just the noodles a couple pieces of meat and fish cake

Salmon Tsutsumi
(1/5) waaaay small portion of a salmon filet and some enoki mushrooms cooked in a sweet mirin broth and wrapped tin foil. not worth the money
