Madison Square Park was established in 1870, but had to be restored in the late 1990s, as did everything in the city. Besides the lovely buildings that surround it, such as the New York Life and Met Life Buildings, this park is where the arm of the Statue of Liberty sat for 10 years before the money was finally raised to erect her. Always make it a point to wander through, because you might see some interesting art installation.
