Subtlety isn't exactly a virtue here. A humongous temple bell, weighing more than 800 lbs, hangs over an intricate Buddha ice sculpture in the main dining room. Everything exudes sleekness and sex appeal, from the smooth leather banquettes to the glowing red mural. As you can imagine, this place attracts a lot of high rollers; fortunately, the 13,000-square-foot restaurant can hold them all. The kitchen prides itself on its Kobe beef from Japan and its cousin Wagyu beef from the United States. They serve it wrapped around foie gras, grilled on a river stone, and raw and thinly sliced on an igloo of ice. There is also a serious sushi menu and a long list of Asian-style entrees. Serious big spenders can opt for the seven-course prix fixe menu ($145) with an available wine or sake pairing. If you're having a drink in the upstairs lounge overlooking the dining room, you have plenty of choices; the wine list reaches 600 varieties and there are more than 60 types of sake.—Keith Wagstaff
great food, great ambience, nice bar area and fun place to go with big group of friends.. I recommend this location in tribeca if you want a more upbeat and fun time.. the midtown location is smaller, its good if you want a more intimate setting. Some of my fav dishes are the shrimp tempura, kobe beef, soft shell crab, crispy shrimp, oriental salad, platinum rice, parmesan french fries and fried asparagas.. I dont eat sushi, but megu is known for having great sushi as well.. All the desserts are good so get the sampler of 5 different kinds.. Yes I like fattening food.. lol
