Chef Matthew Hamilton named his teeny, family-friendly bistro after his wife and daughter. Lulu & Po serves shareable dishes like fried anchovies with Sriracha-spiked tartar sauce and iron-pressed chicken in a casual, welcoming atmosphere. Though space is tight, it's not uncomfortable, and it's fun to watch Hamilton in the small, open kitchen and marvel at his use of the space. Those who remember the chef from his former days at Belcourt, in the East Village, will be pleased to know that those bone marrow tacos--hot marrow bones with griddled tortillas and a caper-dotted herb salad--have found their way to Brooklyn.

Matthew Hamilton's teeny Fort Greene restaurant, Lulu & Po, offers a simple menu of shareable, rustic plates, including this heap of deep-fried anchovies. The fillets are crisp, gently fishy, and not too salty, and they arrive with a welcome side of tartar sauce spiked with Sriracha. It's wholesome anchovy fun for the whole family. 154 Carlton Avenue, Brooklyn, 917-435-3745, luluandpo.com (11205) More »
