The California-Mediterranean cooking of Suzanne Goin, which is feminine in all the best ways, is profoundly beautiful in its simplicity, and there is satori to be found in every bite of grilled fish, every herb salad, every roasted vegetable. When she's on, Goin teases out the flavor from a tomato with the precision of a sushi master, making textural contrasts dance and playing with bursts of acidity and the resinous flavors of fresh herbs. Lucques, named for a vivid green variety of French olive, is located in Harold Lloyd's old carriage house; it boasts an ultrasleek Barbara Barry design and one of the nicest patios in West Hollywood, but on loud weekend nights the restaurant can sometimes seem as if it is about 90 percent bar. Sunday family dinners are legendary. Prix fixe dinners.
In this carbless, gluten-free, spinning/yoga/CrossFit-obsessed town, it's easy to vilify the humble loaf of bread. Sometimes offering very little in the way of nutrition and very much in the way of r... More »

Suzanne Goin's wine-centric bistro in West Hollywood is a lovely example of what increasingly feels like a dying breed: the grown-up restaurant. Lucques' ivy-covered, brick-walled space greets you with a roaring fireplace flanked by comfy... More »
So chic and romantic. The food definately lives up to reputation of this restaurant. A gastronomic must. Try to book a table on the outside patio.
If you don't already know, Susan Goin is pretty much the most talented and accomplished Chef in L.A.. This is the first and i believe still the best. She also brought you A.O.C. and the very low key but awesome little seafood restaurant Hungry Cat. As the protoge of one of the pioneers of "California cuisine", Alice Waters, she brings elegance an style to Cal-French comfort food. Also one of the continuing pioneers of removing the pretense about wine and making it fun to drink! This is a really comfortable and elegant place with out the pretense and probably the most educated wait staff in socal. Oh and ....they do a Sunday prix fixe supper menu for $35. Well worth the experience at a fraction of the price.
