If you've passed this landmark 1975 building that looks like a giant barrel on Richmond and never bothered to venture inside, shame on you. The place offers not only a decent burger and fries but some great fried seafood, too. The interior is tiny, so many people get their food to go. Try the jalapeño cheeseburger or Harold's blue-cheeseburger. And if you tire of beef burgers, then the fish burger, the teriyaki chicken or the veggie burger are all welcome changes. All of the seafood dishes, such as fish and chips or shrimp, are fried. There's a great shrimp-fried rice.
With the proliferation of open kitchens in Houston, it's hard to ignore the chefs who are actually making the food. Nowhere is that more true than at Underbelly, where food enthusiasts can literally s... More »
Lenten season is upon us. Many people have decided to give up something that they love in their lives, and most of the time that something ends up being food or drink. I'm talking about beer, chocolat... More »

The prospect of getting decent Chinese and American food all in one place initially drew me to Lucky Burger. (Hey, I'm all for fusion cuisine.) The colorful facade also reminded me of Austin, which I ... More »
From the outside, Lucky Burger looks more like a greasy bucket than a greasy spoon. You may even think that the food inside this dumpy little corner eatery isn't safe, but inside are some really simple and tasty burgers. The short menu gets to the point with burgers and cheeseburgers, with variations of toppings like jalapeños, bacon, extra meat, blue cheese (really?) and mushrooms, as well as sides of tots and onion rings. There's also fried fish burgers, nuggets, fried rice, chicken-fried steak burger and the teriyaki chicken burger. And don't worry, Lucky Burger has a chili burger — it wouldn't be a greasy spoon if it didn't.

It's nothing short of a stroke of luck to be able to satisfy two strong cravings at once. Lucky Burger's name makes it clear that it dishes up burgers, and it's retro root-beer-barrel design offers a hint that these are old-fashioned versions (read: griddle-fried with buttered buns). But who knew that this modest place is a one-stop shop for burgers and Chinese food? This fusion of flavors is most welcome in its Montrose neighborhood, where these diverse delicacies can be delivered to your... More »
