The logo of this restaurant from the city of Qingdao, China - just across the Yellow Sea from Korea - shows a lighthouse built by German concessionaires over a century ago, and the menu reflects their influence, among many others at one of the city's most unusual restaurants. Shaped like crepes, the pork-stuffed dumplings are open at the ends, and something called "spinach pancake" features layers of the compressed and fried vegetable in what might be a substitute for Astroturf. Lamb and beef abound, principally in stews brimming with red oil, and so does pumpkin, bizarrely paired with milk in a soup. And that is only the beginning of the thrills that await you at Lu Xiang Yuan (which has the name Hong Shun on the awning).
