Description

Riding the wave of Southern comfort food spots to open in New York, Lowcountry takes the South Carolina coast as its inspiration. The décor and menu both reflect a casual Southern attitude done up West Village style. Will Sullivan (Bar Blanc Bistro) cooks simple fare with carefully sourced ingredients like the shrimp with organic, hand-ground cheddar grits and tomato gravy, and the chicken biscuit made with a fried, free-range chicken breast and onion jam on a cheddar biscuit with sausage gravy. The young, designer-clad crowd certainly likes to drink; thankfully the restaurant features a Southern-themed cocktail menu featuring drinks like the JJ Cooler (Jack Daniels, fresh peach puree, pineapple juice and ginger ale) and the Southern Bell-ini (sparkling wine, strawberry puree, peach), as well as one of the best drink deals in the neighborhood‹a shot and can of PBR for $6. The dimly lit dining room jazzes up classic design elements like brown leather banquettes and hardwood floors with large stacks of country LPs.—Keith Wagstaff
