Closing time: An end-of-season ski and snowboard splash-down countdown

10 things to do for $10 this weekend (7 free!), February 22-24

  • Loving Loveland

    Loving Loveland

“Loveland Ski Area has come a long way since 1937, and we want to thank our customers for supporting us through the years,” says Rob Goodell, director of business operations at the mountain, long a locals’ favorite among Front Range skiers and... More »

  • 2010 | Best Mid-Week Deal

Monday through Friday is the best time to head to the hills, for two reasons: Nobody's on the mountain and nobody's on I-70. The folks at Loveland Ski Area know this, which is why they offer a mid-week pass for $249 (or less, if you buy early or are a returning customer). Consider, too, that five-sevenths of the snow falls during the work week and that Loveland sometimes stays open until June. Of course, work can't be your priority if you're a mid-week skier or boarder. But maybe it... More »

  • 2008 | Best Locals' Mountain

There are no hotels here. No jewelry stores, no $10 hamburgers. You don't have to pay to park, and you don't see many Texans on the hill. Most of the people who ski and ride "Lovie" do it with pride, a great deal of them professing their affection with bumperstickers. Sure, it's windy and the lifts are slower, but when the breezes blow the right way, the snow stacks up quickly, and without all the crowds. Loveland is our land. More »

  • 2007 | Best Locals Mountain

Even though there are much bigger mountains and badder terrain parks, Loveland remains beloved. There are no monstrous hotels here, no $8 cheeseburgers, no jerks running the lifts, no Texans. You don't even have to go through the Eisenhower Tunnel to get here, and less road time means more snow time. And you'll be able to make the most of that time on the uncrowded hill; aside from a few more cars in the parking lot, there's not much difference between the weekends and weekdays at Loveland.... • 2005 | Best Reason to Still Love Colorado Skiing

At a time when it seems that every ski area is turning into a real-estate venture with a faux Ye Olde Alpine Village at its base, Loveland is a welcome throwback. The runs may be shorter than those at nearby mega-resorts, but what you get in return is priceless. There are no condos or ski-in, ski-out chalets slopeside, no golf course to pull in guests when the snow is gone. In other words, the only reason to come here is the riding. Parking is free, and even if you're on the far edges of the... More »
