Hidden inside the New Hotel, Lou's Beer Garden is a hip, inviting place to kick back and relax. No need to dress up; just throw on some flip-flops and head to this North Beach gastropub. Diners looking for a restaurant will be surprised to find only a small bar in the hotel's courtyard. Tables surround the swimming pool, where hotel guests and beer enthusiasts hang out. Order from a selection of about 12 microbrews, including Chimay Triple, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, and Flying Dog Brewery's Raging Bitch. Start with crowd-favorite crispy sardines ($6.50) and then move on to one of proprietor Lou Ramirez's other tasty creations. Angry Shrimp ($8.95) - blackened and served with sweet-and-sour sauce - or squid stuffed with Manchego cheese, chorizo, herbs, and spices are solid accompaniments to the cold brew. Or try Lou's Beach Market Burger ($12.50), served with traditional condiments, lettuce, onions, bacon, and feta and American cheeses. Before you know it, you'll have made a few new friends and consumed one more beer than intended. And if you're there past midnight, you might witness a free spirit hopping into the pool, but that's all good at Lou's. Sit back, kick off the flip-flops, and enjoy good beer and food.

Miami has enough velvet-rope-and-$25-valet nightclubs to keep Ed Hardy and your local Ecstasy dealer in the money for life. What it doesn't have enough of, though, is the sort of bar where you can show up in casual clothes, have a conversation without screaming over club music, and spend a night getting tipsy on premium beer accompanied with a good nosh. That's why we're so happy to welcome Lou's Beer Garden, an understated outdoor poolside bar and kitchen in the courtyard of the New Hotel... More »
