Description
The name of this Lower East Side spot translates something like, “The Crazy Wiener,” and its specialty is frankfurters served South American style with lots of toppings. The wieners themselves are quite good, and sometimes you wonder if you want all the glop on top that Los Perros Locos is willing to ladle on. There are eight choices of dressed dogs (there are vegetarian and chorizo options, too, at slightly elevated prices), running from the Pablo Escobar (pineapple sauce, apple chipotle slaw, potato chips, kewpie mayo) to El Nino Loco (Kraft mac and cheese, Fritos, ketchup). And there are perhaps a dozen other optional toppings in addition to the pre-sets, making for some rather bewildering choices. The place is small, hopping, and modern looking, with lots of counter seating. In addition to the franks, you can get salchipapas (like Colombian poutine), hamburgers, chicken cooked in Coca Cola, and a handful of sweets.
