Description

LA Weekly's Description

Ita-Cho inspires long lines on the weekends for its village-style Japanese cuisine. The food comes out on a series of little plates that can be shared by everyone; and, hey, if someone bogarts the sauteed miso-soaked eggplant, or marinated black cod, just order more. The kitchen and service staff are so swift, you’ll hardly notice the wait, and the prices aren’t punishing.

The huge room with a tall ceiling makes up for otherwise spare ambience. Fresh fish for both basic rolls (they use real crab in their Cali roll) and some fun additions (spicy yellowtail on crispy rice is on more of a flat cracker than the dish you find at Katsuya/Koi). Also great small plates for sharing like lotus root and Chinese broccoli. Solid sake and wine lists. Very reasonably priced.

Best miso eggplant in the city, and the lotus root is a must.

Red snapper sashimi with sea salt and lemon, cucumbers and seaweed in spiced rice vinegar, iced matcha.
