Merchant's Description

Abalone Cove Shoreline Park features two beaches (Abalone Cove and Sacred Cove), tidepools, bluff top viewing areas and trails crisscrossing the area. The park contains a State Ecological Preserve and taking of protected animals and marine life is prohibited. There is direct access to a parking lot off Palos Verdes Drive South. Access to Abalone Cove Beach is by a long trail from the parking lot. To access Sacred Cove, users must walk along Palos Verdes Drive South to one of two trails between Portuguese and Inspiration Points. Lifeguards are on duty at Abalone Cove Beach during summer hours and weekends only. The views of the ocean and Catalina Island are spectacular. Barbeques and fires are prohibited at this site. Dogs are prohibited on the beach; however, on-leash dogs are permitted in the upper picnic area and on designated trails.

Tips from foursquare

In Inception (2010) Cobb washes up on the shoreline of Abalone Cove with the castle added digitally in post-production and the beach was reused as the edge of limbo with digital tower blocks.

Check surfline.com or other forecasts and go when the tide is low otherwise you won't be able to see/appreciate the tide pools. There's a cave right at the rocky point of the bend.

Check out the FREE monthly events, such as tide pool tours and hikes. This was Cheap Date Idea #57 on my blog.

Amazing tidepools not only in Abalone Cove but the adjacent coves to the south! They are accessible by blufftop trails down to the water.

Wanted to get to the tide pools. Turned out out was gonna be a bit too much of a hike so it didn't work out.
