An exotic and romantic date spot thanks to its lakes, waterfalls and gondola rides, the Hyatt's further buoyed by the resort's rotating live music roster. Every night in the lounge you can find one of three acts -- Paul McDermand (steel drums and marimba), Mosaico (a flamenco group with dancers) and Nuance (a contemporary classical group).
From cocktail-centric celebrations to a wine country brunch, there was no shortage of events for the food lover during last week's Scottsdale Culinary Festival. One final event ended the week with a b... More »
IWhile this weekend might be your last chance to enjoy the cool weather, it's also time to start scoping out your go-to spots for when things really heat up. Pool hopping is as much of a summer s... More »
I'm used to looking for hole-in-the-wall ethnic restaurants or modest indie bistros, but I didn't expect to have to hunt for one of the Valley's most exciting, high-end resort dining destinations. Well, until now. For my first visit to Vu the... More »
After the architects and designers of the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale designed the swim-up bar located in one of the ritzy resort's many posh pools, we sincerely hope they got a hearty pat on the back for genius thinking. Why? Because the ability to have a drink while swimming around in the drink is one of the greatest ideas ever. What better way to imbibe than with the scantily dressed and dripping wet? Patrons of the resort (or anyone crafty enough to sneak in) can toss back a few adult... More »

We don't know how they did it, but we're awfully glad the folks at the Hyatt found a way to import all the best parts of the beach (soft sand, clear water, plenty of deck chairs) and none of the worst ("Hey, Mom, it doesn't smell bad here like the real beach!"). Some genius designed the beach so that much of it is... More »
The best resort pools are the wet dreams you can still sneak into without springing for a room card key; where a casual flip of a wrought-iron fence latch and a confident "been here since Thursday" attitude is enough to keep security from tapping you on the shoulder, even if you have just wandered in from your sun-baked Honda. In that regard, the rambling, two-and-a-half-acre water playground at the Scottsdale Hyatt Regency is just old enough to allow access without passing through a... More »
Not that we would ever condone making use of the facilities of a hotel when not a guest, because we would never do that, but should you happen to have the opportunity to take in the backyards of the more chi-chi resorts in this little resort town of ours, you'll soon find out what we did: Gainey Ranch has the best pool facilities we've ever seen. Sitting on just under three acres, with several divided pools, a "beach" surrounded by tiki torches, a whirlpool spa, and a three-story water... More »
