Although the name (Live Sushi Bar) evokes squiggling tentacles and tanks of sparkling fish, all the sushi at this Potrero Hill joint is sliced and still ― that is, with the exception of the scallops and the uni, which arrive "on the shell." Some customers a this Japanese spot accompany their sake bombs and beers with tasty, but inauthentic rolls ― the Philadelphia Roll (cream cheese and lox), the SFPD Roll, the Behind the Green Door Roll, and so forth ― but others order up fried chicken appetizers, ramen variations, and Kobe beef preparations as well. Live is owned by a former chef at Ebisu, and that restaurant's fans often stop by when they're in the neighborhood.
