Description

The humble grilled cheese goes gourmet at this tiny Lower East Side sandwich shop. Indeed, no Kraft Singles on white here, but rather combos including Asiago, Parmesan, butternut squash puree, and brown butter on peasant bread; Oaxaca cheese with jalapeno-corn spread and cojita; and, our personal favorite, Gruyere and chevre with leek confit and pancetta on sourdough, all priced around $8. Sammys are good, though not mind-blowing. Seating is somewhat uncomfortable, but the décor is bright and quirky—be sure to check out the chandelier made from box graters.
