Liberty adds some much-needed variety to the small cluster of bars on Capitol Hill's 15th Avenue East. With plush couches and fancy drinks, it's more stylish than most of the places on this strip. Sushi as bar food may seem incongruous, but for the most part it's not half bad. The messily formed scallop rolls are quite tasty, as are the yellowtail hamachi and the Rainbow Roll with mango, cilantro, avocado, red pepper, and cucumber. The food does not go on special during these hours, but the drinks do, with $2 PBRs, $4 well drinks, and $3 drafts. Liberty's shelves sit at least three deep with a wide variety-including a rotating list of 40 bourbons and a dozen absinthes-and bartenders who have no difficulty navigating them.
