Your Guide to Black Friday in Metro Phoenix

Once a year, the act of camping outside Best Buys and Targets is as American as apple pie -- and gorging yourself on apple pie to the point of abdominal pain. Now, we love shopping. Really, we do. (Se... More »

  • 2011 | Best Bargain Basement

Like many of the best things in life, Last Chance just isn't what it used to be. Back in the day (like, the mid-'90s) you could pick up a Kate Spade purse for under $20 ($19.97, to be exact), a Nicole Miller ballgown for under $40, five pairs of Hush Puppies for well under $100. But now Hush Puppies are out of style -- again -- and the folks who run Nordstrom's clearinghouse for all returns and the crap it didn't sell at it department stores or outlets are onto us. More important,... More »

  • 2010 | Best Bargain Clothing

We are accustomed to running into friendly firefighters shopping for dinner at our neighborhood Safeway, but when we spotted a gaggle of firemen near the front of the line at Last Chance on a recent visit, we got a little uppity. "Jeez," we said (luckily only to ourselves), "the bargains are good here, but really, shouldn't those firefighters be adjusting their hoses or waxing their poles instead of shopping?"Then we got close enough to see the victim on the floor. Given the pushing and... More »

  • 2009 | Best Retail Legend

As shoppers here love to remind the rest of the world, "You only get one Last Chance -- and it's in Phoenix."Yes, there's Nordstrom Rack, the discount arm of the pricey chain department store. That's not what we're talking about here. Last Chance gets the stuff that doesn't sell at The Rack, as well as items from other Nordstroms far and wide, thanks to the company's liberal return policy. And if you dig -- and dig you must; that Hobo wallet and those Prada loafers aren't going... More »

  • 2006 | BEST HIGH-END BARGAIN CLOTHING

This category was created and has been sustained for Last Chance by a certain New Times writer so thoroughly addicted to the store that he now has 13 barely different pairs of top-shelf Italian ankle boots. This writer wonders, as does his wife, if Last Chance itself has made this man gay. No, no, on further thought, this is simply an asexual get-rich-quick obsession like gold fever. The shopper here is prospecting, digging through the ripped Pure Stuff short-staple cotton shirt that should... More »

  • 2005 | BEST BARGAIN CLOTHES

This Best of Phoenix is brought to you by a metrosexual man in Mephisto shoes, Bugachi shirt and Indigo Palms jeans. Suggested retail: $590. Last Chance price: $59. That's a 90 percent discount, just about average for this clearinghouse dive for leftovers, returns and misfit dolls from the nation's Nordstrom department stores. Yes, it is a dive, something akin to a Tuscaloosa swap meet on hillbilly heroin. But take heart, because beyond the grabby bitches, both male and female, there is... More »

  • 2002 | Best Bargain For High-End Clothing

Materialist hell on Earth is having good taste without the means to acquire good things. Well, enlightened losers, now you can have your career passions while still wearing Cole Haans. Welcome to Last Chance, the final resting place of all the stuff Nordstrom couldn't sell for what it was almost worth. If you don't mind the swap-meet frazzle, and you are mindful of watching for flaws, you can make a killing here. It's not uncommon to pay $29 for shoes here that are selling for $130 within... More »

Great place for cheap shoes and clothing. Be prepared to stand in line to check out! Although the wait isn't that bad.

I sometimes come here to try to find a bargain but sometimes you just got to not expect to find a certain thing when coming to this store! I would get name brand shirts (7 Diamonds, Hugo Boss, etc.) for $10 - $20 bucks. The prices for the shoes usually are about $40, but if you are lucky, they sometimes get Mark Nason boots and sandals for $70. Also on rare occasions they will have Dolce & Gabanna shoes as well.

You just have to go a few times, some stuff is used, damaged or otherwise undesirable. It's a bit like CSI to look at a thing and try to figure out why it's there. Often, it's something small that can save you a lot of $$$$. Shoes, suits, shirts, jeans, sunglasses and accessories. Got Oakleys and Maui Jim glasses here for $10 ea.
