Description

Laredo on Lafayette Square replaces Arcelia’s as the Mexican restaurant with a picturesque view of Lafayette Park. Laredo offers a selection of Mexican and Tex-Mex favorites presented with more attention to detail and bolder flavors than you’d expect, like enchiladas coated in a rich, smoky red sauce, or chicken in a nutty, dark-chocolate mole (pollo en mole). There’s a selection of “fusion” dishes — chipotle-rubbed swordfish, a rib-eye steak in a poblano-cream sauce — as well. And Laredo’s torta, centered on chicken prepared milanesa style, is a gem.

I do not often order fish when dining out because it is so seldom that it is prepared correctly but I decided to take a chance with the Grilled Salmon with Pineapple Salsa. What a great surprise! This Grilled Salmon is the reason I do occasionally take a chance. I am glad I did because this dish is perfect. The salmon was exactly the way salmon should be with good grill marks and moist warm center. The pineapple salsa had just a hint of sweetness that complimented the salmon without taking center stage and the roasted potatoes and broccoli that served as a base for the salmon and were also well prepared. The potatoes had a nice crust and the broccoli had a deep satisfying flavor. All in all, the meal was the right choice for an early spring evening and I will definitely be back for the grilled salmon and I haven’t even started on the Mexican fare.
