A legendary singer in Denver for decades, Lannie Garrett knows how to keep folks entertained. And she brings the same enthusiasm she has for performing to her club, a riotously decorated space (thank Lonnie Hanzon for that) located in the basement of the D&F Clocktower. While Garrett performs regularly here, sometimes with a big band or the Gypsy Swing Revue, she also brings in a variety of other acts, everything from burlesque, comedy and magic to live R&B, blues, jazz and rock. Depending on the night's entertainment lineup, the dimly lit, intimate club can be an ideal spot for dates and anniversaries -- or a raucous bachelorette party. Generally, there are shows Wednesday through Saturday night.

The best thing about Lannie's "A Night In..." food, music and wine series, is that, for around $45, you'll be transported to another country for an evening, immersed in the tastes, smells and sounds of a land far, far away. So far, the series has been to Spain, France and Italy, and this month, Lannie's will take lucky participants to Ireland. Bonus: No jet-lag or thin hostel mattresses involved. Just a trip to downtown Denver's favorite clocktower, where you can get away from it all --... More »
Life-drawing aficionados usually sketch any body they can find. Few people, after all, have the right personality to disrobe so that a crowd can scrutinize every shadow and wrinkle. For more interesting models, try Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School. The invention of Brooklyn burlesquer Molly Crabapple, it's shown up in Denver under the auspices of local burlesque belle Vivienne VaVoom. Every third Monday of the month, VaVoom dishes up a heady mix of exotic-dancer mannequins, roller-derby girls,... More »
