Back in 2000, Land of Sushi opened in a strip mall across from what was then Southglenn Mall -- now the Streets at SouthGlenn -- and quickly made a splash. Over the years, the spot has just gotten better. Owners Steve and Jessie Lin are Chinese, but Steve trained in sushi restaurants in New York before coming out to Colorado to open his own restaurant; the quality of the fish at Land of Sushi is a testament to his passion. He gets shipments every day, Jessie says, including Sundays, and he regularly brings in such rarities as live scallops. While the seafood selection is impressive, the restaurant itself doesn't look like much: Beyond the nondescript entrance, the dining room is comfortable but modest, with stone-topped tables crowded into a boxy space decorated rather haphazardly with mismatched wall hangings and a whiteboard listing the day's specials. But you'll forget your surroundings when you belly up to the brightly lit sushi bar, often attended by three chefs and flanked by an L-shaped counter that's usually full of guests. The bare-bones ambience just means there's nothing to distract your attention from the food -- and the food definitely deserves all your attention.
Revered for its innovative and stunningly composed raw fish and rolls served (if you ask) with freshly grated wasabi, Land of Sushi -- whose unfortunate name belies everything that lifts this restaurant to sea stardom -- is also a spectacular restaurant for traditional Japanese-intensive cuisine. Besides sushi, the kitchen turns out everything from udon and soba noodle dishes to Japanese hot pots, grilled fish plated with sculptured Asian vegetables and draped with sauces that sing... More »

Anyone who says you can only find good seafood on the coasts is just plain wrong. A number of restaurants in Denver are helmed by chefs who really know their way around fish. They bring in the best sp... More »
As soon as the plate was set down, I stopped my conversation mid-sentence to reach out and gingerly chopstick a disc of raw scallop, ruining the display of lemon, cucumber and momiji-ichigo berries that had been delicately arranged alongside. I... More »

Ure..there are trendier places, with more of an "LA feel"...but i HATE LA, and I don't go out to feel California....I go out only for excellent food...and speaking of that-The Owner and head chef here, STEVE is quite amazing! His sauces top any I've ever tasted, and even his SOY SAUCE is homemade...starting with a 30 yr aged sauce as a base... Try the ROCKING roll, and the Chop Chop roll...you'll be blown away! A little known secret here...MANY of the finest restaurants in our area go to Steve and Land of Sushi to acxquire THEIR fish...the stuff they put on their OWN menus...I've been there eating when a certain fine hotel's chef walked in the front door and asked for a few pounds of Steve's best bluefin tuna...there's a REASON they go to HIM....try it, you'll not be disappointed! Service is WONDEFUL and the fish is the freshest I've had anywahere...and I am from the Florida Keys!
