It's pure comfort to know the same waitresses will serve you the same chicken pot pies year after year. These pies are the size of large talcum-powder puffs and have a flaky, golden-brown pastry crust.
This 100 Favorites Dishes feature is all about comfort foods for this writer. Granted, I include tacos de tripas and fish pho in that category, but it also embraces American classics like chicke... More »

Cream puffs kick butt!!
Another restaurant my family has been going to for many years. This place has been a landmark in Anaheim for probably 40+ years and is well known for their famous chicken pies. Small homemade pies with amazing crust, they are filled with only chicken and gravy. I get the chicken pie dinner and it comes with a small chicken pie, mashed potatoes, a small green salad, and a cup of chicken soup. Really inexpensive comfort food. Something to mention- many people don't realize it is also a bakery. Pick up cookies, pies, or cakes on your way out, or pre-order a birthday cake. Try the spice cake with fresh banana filling, or the burnt almond cake? (it doesn't taste nutty at all, my boyfriend hates nuts and it's his favorite) It's one of the only places I know of that still closes for two weeks out of the year for holiday; but don't fret, I happen to know they sell uncooked frozen chicken pies to their regulars to sustain them during the time they are gone:-)
