The luscious display of fruits and vegetables outside will lure you into this combo grocery and eatery, oddly decorated in various shapes of purple (maybe not so odd when you consider the name). The chalkboard specials listed out front are the best deals, including, on a recent visit, puerco con verdolaga, a rich stew of huge pork chunks with purslane, a green more admired in Shakespeare's time than today. La Morada makes its own chipotle sauce, and you should spoon it liberally on your tacos, tortas, quesadillas, and other antojitos, which run the usual gamut from lengua (cow tongue) to cecina (salt-cured beef). For breakfast, dig the chilaquiles and cactus omelets.
La Morada is a wonderful place, they have 5 different types of mole, that is a feat! as fellow Mexican, you won't find that kind of hand made commitment. If I'm looking for homemade, genuine homemade food, I will choose La Morada plus the family's commitment to the community of Mott Haven is absolutely inspiring. They are truly wonderful and delicious place, you wont be disjointed. The tortillas and flavor of this restaurant will make you coming back for more. if you eat in, the service is wonderful.
