This Denver restaurant has grown with Denver, since its days in a little bungalow in the early '70s to its current incarnation, a landmark spot overlooking the city, known for its good green chile (the recipe of the late Savina Mendoza, the matriarch of one of the founding families) and enormous margaritas. Although a few items -- shrimp fajitas, for example -- have been added to the board since La Loma was founded, most of the menu has been virtually unchanged since 1973, and so serves up a real culinary history.
We tasted a lot of house margaritas in preparation for our Best of Denver 2011 issue, and the marg at El Camino was hands down the Best House Margarita, as well as one of the most simple, true to the ... More »
What is the taste of Colorado? I have been asking this question — in various forms, in various places — almost since the day I started this job. One of my first columns was about the way green chile changes on the way from southern New Mexico to... More »

A great place for lunch and happy hour. The place is nuts when there's a Bronco game. Always great margaritas.
There's a reason their parking lot is always full -- La Loma is awesome. Don't be deterred by the number of cars; they have tons of seating and the service is great.
This is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Denver. They have a decent bar area if you want to eat and watch a game as well. A bit of a random location but it is still really close to downtown. Try the Carne Guisada if you like meat.
