Ownership under the Landry empire seems to have dulled the menu somewhat, but this is still a place to enjoy some fabulous Italian cuisine and to see and be seen. Try the shrimp and crab cheesecake appetizer, the gnocchi with vodka sauce, the braised short ribs and the spectacular homemade desserts. A gorgeous outdoor patio makes for an inviting place to sip a glass or two.

Sometimes, I find myself drawn to a restaurant not for what's on the menu, but for what is placed on the table in front of me before I even open the menu. You know what I'm talking about. It's sometim... More »

awesome food, good place, good experience, good service
La Griglia No longer a Vallone enterprise (it's now part of Fertitta Land), La Griglia is still the extended-power-luncheon hot spot. Its funky decor never distracts from the patrons -- this is, after all, Houston's prime see-and-be-seen locale -- but the food ain't half bad, either. The restaurant has excellent pasta dishes, margarita pizza and veal chops. But a... More »

Tony Vallone, the patriarch of Houston's most elite dining dynasty, has instilled this work ethic in all his progeny, who provide a horde of servers, from captains to busboys, to surround each table, doting on diners with the tender care of a grandmother. The trick, however, is to be at the customer's elbow when needed and to fade into the woodwork when not. At La Griglia, the pace is... More »
