This boozy little cantina isn't for traditionalists. Yes, you can get standard Mexican fare like tacos and burritos, but most people come here for the cocktails and quirky, stick-to-your-ribs party fare like cilantro- and onion-topped disco fries and a Mexican version of shrimp cocktail. The space reflects the fun, irreverent spirit of the food with bright red chili pepper lights, hanging sombreros and an inflatable cactus in the window. While owner Bobby Gonzales isn't afraid to mix things up with unconventional dishes like his bola di Chino (chicken, cheese and green chile-filled dumplings), you can still expect to find hearty classics like flautas and enchiladas served with beans and rice. Most dishes are available in vegetarian-friendly chicken substitute versions. Choose from around 12 different upscale tequilas or opt for one of the specialty cocktails like the house margaritas or El Boracho, a concoction of tequila and ginger ale meant to be slammed against the table and drunk while still fizzing.—Keith Wagstaff
