Description

As its name says, part of the restaurant is a mariachi hall. It's unbelievably packed with musicians and dancers on weekend nights. But the other half of the place is a first-rate Mexican restaurant, specializing in seafood. Garlic fish is outstanding, regional soups are gripping, and when the menu says spicy, it ain't kidding.

  • 2008 | Best Place to Hear Happy Mariachi Music

No quinceañera or boda (Mexican wedding) in sight to satisfy your thirst for the joyous blare of mariachis There's always La Casa del Mariachi, where the excellent Mexican fare, the Crayola-bright interior, and the music makes it the place to be. On weekends, the adjacent dancehall hosts quite the fiesta with a full mariachi band, brass and all. More »

  • 2006 | BEST PLACE TO HEAR LIVE MARIACHI MUSIC

The worst thing a Mexican restaurant can do is hire a bad mariachi band. Imagine being tied to your table, waiting for the check, while the Mexican Hat Dance plays for the umpteenth time. Shudder. We've been there. Thankfully, you won't have that experience at La Casa del Mariachi. Sure, the interior is pure kitsch, with faux tile roofs, candy-colored walls and burro murals. The music is fabulous, though. On weekends, the Salon Guadalajara banquet facility adjoining the main restaurant... More »

  • 2005 | BEST PLACE TO HEAR LIVE MARIACHI MUSIC

The takeout menu for this great place announces in Spanish that it's "the place where you will find good ambiance, good music and good food." And the restaurant's proud claim is no lie, especially on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. On those nights, beginning at about 6:30, mas o menos, La Casa del Mariachi serves up bueno grub (its specialty is authentic Mexican seafood) and a free mini-floor show featuring live singing, often with live mariachi musicos such as Mariachi Tierra del Sol... • 2003 | BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT

We expect a lot from our "best" Mexican restaurant. First, there's the food, of course. And La Casa delivers in delicious style, with home-style breakfasts of chilaquiles con queso; or lunches and dinners of shrimp-octopus cocktail, ceviche tostada, and mixed skillets of fabulously seasoned chicken, beef and carnitas or seafood. It's all fresh and fun, with our favorite dish being tilapia fish with tons of real garlic swimming in butter, alongside stellar rice, beans and a warm flour... More »

  • 2002 | Best Mexican And Spanish Karaoke

Love to sing From Julio Iglesias to Enrique Iglesias, you can give it your best shot -- in Spanish. Whether you're after some karaoke or real live mariachi, either way you can start warming up your vocal cords for Casa del Mariachi. The new-from-the-ground-up Casa stays true to its name, featuring nightly live variety shows; check out the open mikes on Thursday nights featuring Noche Bohemia and the live mariachi on Sunday afternoons. Watch as dozens of sober and not-so-sober amateurs... More »
