Overshadowed by its better-known peers La PorteƱa and La Fusta, this comfy Argentine steak house, with a particularly gracious staff, persists on a strip of Northern Boulevard known for its Colombian eateries. Its penchant for Italo-Argentine fusion is particularly notable, seen especially in the namesake wood-oven pizza, which comes draped with luscious strips of skirt steak-we've never seen anything quite like it. The parrillada for two is generous, and focused on organ meats, while the fettuccine Alfredo is one of the richer editions in town.
A pal of mine is obsessed with skirt steak, so naturally I steered him toward an Argentinean place. Located on an East Elmhurst strip that caters to Colombians, LA CABANA serves up all the usual barbecued meats, but what really blew us away was the skirt steak pizza, festooned with strips of barbecued meat and smeared with tomato sauce and cheese.
