Knaus Berry Farm's cinnamon rolls and strawberry milkshakes are the stuff of Dade County legend. Moms, grandpas, puppy dogs, the deeply hungover and everyone else under the South Florida sun has hauled it down to Homestead and waited on a seemingly endless line for the pleasure of some Knaus goodies. Not to mention their U-pick strawberries, homemade breads and fresh-picked produce. This bakery slash farmstand is Mennonite-run, so Sundays are a no-go, but the trek down any other day of the week in season is well worth it.

BEST KEY LIME PIE Knaus Berry Farm 15980 SW 248th Street Homestead 305-247-0668 Key lime pie inevitably involves a graham cracker crust, filling made of key lime juice and condensed milk, and topping of either whipped cream or meringue. So how can one be that much better than another? Cream cheese. That's right, the German Baptists at Homestead's half-century-old Knaus Berry Farm use cream cheese in their topping. The Baptists have long beards, but they are not Amish, as many think,... More »
Many praise the Knaus Berry Farm cinnamon rolls, so tasty not a one has ever lasted long enough to grow stale. Others have noted how heavenly a confection is the key lime pie created by these German Baptists, who share with the Amish a partiality for long beards and dark formalwear. But truth be told (no matter what the cooks are wearing), on any given day the longest line here is for the milkshakes. Smooth, fruity, and flavorful, the shakes come in strawberry, chocolate, raspberry,... More »
Are you sick of key lime pies that taste treacly, like green-color candy? Yet you live in South Florida and, damn it, when visitors come to call, they expect the local confection. Fret not, there is hope. Oddly enough it comes from sternly dressed German Baptists. More than a half century old, the Knaus Berry Farm in Homestead is rightly celebrated for its pecan rolls and fresh strawberries. On weekends between the middle of November and the last Saturday of April, customers brave long lines... More »
