A cabaret/lounge/bar with some of the most lavish and eclectic decor in Dinkytown, this campus hangout is fancy without being snooty. With regular live music, lots of casually comfortable seating and a well-stocked bar, this is a good place to get away from the chaos and hassle of the downtown meat-market scene.
There are a number of influences rippling through Dada Trash Collage's abstract pop, from the Beach Boys to the Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev. Of course, the most obvious precedent is Animal Collective, a comparison that songwriter William Freed... More »
The first Thursday of every month is Modern Radio Night at the Kitty Cat Klub, and the local label aims to re-create the edgy musical magic of Manchester's fabled club the Hacienda. Two wildly inventive local quartets, Leisure Birds (pictured)... More »
There's just something about the holidays. Maybe it's all the extra food and alcohol we've been consuming over the past month, maybe it's the excessive amount of family time, maybe it's the rushed feeling we have now that the year is almost over... More »

That said, finding an event that manages to be flirty without feeling like a meat market can be tough. Thankfully, Hipshaker dance night has been bringing the ladies out to the clubs for almost a decade. The soul and funk party, spun by DJs Greg Waletski and Brian Engel, is hosted at the Kitty Cat Klub and happens on the second Thursday of the month. The evening typically starts out with... More »
Twilight, the Twin Cities' Monthly Queer Women's Dance Party, recently celebrated its ninth anniversary, standing firm as the most reliable and fun party in a town where venues catering to queer women are few and far between. In those years, Twilight has been held at various venues--the Varsity, Bobino, the Loring Pasta Bar, Club Ashé, and Trocadero's--and has recently found a home at the Kitty Cat Klub in Dinkytown. The Kitty Cat Klub's funky decor, dim lighting, and comfy... More »
Fantastic little bar. The bar is beautifully decorated with a combination of antiques and indie art. The bartenders are great. On quieter nights it is a great place to go, get a drink, and catch up with friends. Their smoking patio is far more comfortable than most. This is by far my favorite bar in Minneapolis.
