Amid the hip-hop clubs and tourist-trap shops is Kill Your Idols, a whimsically decorated bar on Espanola Way. From Bruce Lee's karate- chopping body protruding from the bar to a '70s Playboy pinball machine next to the retro cigarette dispenser, the décor is a nightmare for anyone with ADD. Chandeliers are made from empty liquor bottles, all the seating is mismatched, and an enormous Ian Curtis illuminates one of the side walls. A WWII blimp and giant astronaut dangle above the tiny dance floor that's packed with sweaty folks grooving to new wave hits and indie beats. The projection screen plays horror movies and music documentaries throughout the night, but after one too many Cherry Bomb shots, it will all look the same. This offbeat watering hole is quickly becoming the place to be, but strictly for the locals-only type of crowd.

Everyone at Kill Your Idol was coupled off, but not Henry. He sat alone at the end of the bar, and from the look on his face, the night wasn't going so well. But then he snapped out of his Pabst stupor and his eyes shone bright. He pointed in the air and shouted, "This is my song. I played this!" Neutral Milk Hotel's "Holland, 1945" was blaring on the jukebox. It was the song Henry used to blast in his bedroom with the door closed when he was only 16. Although technically alone, Henry was...
