Description

Though located north of its Homestead predecessor, the second installation of Keg South might be harder to find. It's not as spacious as a typical sports bar, but the cramped quarters add to the allure. There are plenty of entertainment options, including pool tables, videogames, and flat-screens to take in sporting events. But it's the food that draws most patrons. The long appetizer list has all the sports-bar favorites plus a couple of specialties such as chicken gumbo soup ($4.49), served with chicken chunks and sausage. Burgers are the tavern's specialty. There is a three-fourth-pound patty prepared to order ($7.29), along with all manner of smaller versions and sliders. As expected, the place offers a variety of wings, with ten ($7.29) or 20 ($13.39) that come grilled or fried. An array of beef entrées features the popular 20-ounce center-cut porterhouse ($14.99) and “the almost famous Keg bites” ($12.59), which bring ten ounces of filet mignon tips. A good choice for vegetarians or those tired of meat is the tuna steak wrap (market price), served with wasabi sauce in a tomato-basil wrap.

Tucked away on a sidestreet just across 137th Avenue from the Kendall-Tamiami Airport, this Keg South location (there is another farther south) is the watering hole for residents from Kendall to Country Walk and the many unnamed portions of unincorporated South Miami-Dade that... • 2005 | BEST NEIGHBORHOOD BAR/SOUTH

From the truly pickled to neighborhood families, denizens of the southern stretch from Naranja to Homestead partake in pitchers and wings and fresh fish fillets daily at Keg South. The bar serves exclusively beer and wine, and the most exotic brew on tap is Heineken, but all mugs of beer cost only two dollars. The place can get crowded on weekends and at dinnertime, a sure sign they're doing something right in the kitchen (food comes nestled in wax paper inside plastic baskets -- try the... More »
