Description
This Nolita lounge goes heavy on the Moroccan theme with an eye towards attracting beautiful women and the wealthy men who love them. Downstairs in the main bar area, ornate screens section off hidden nooks with walls draped over with blood-red fabric, all dimly lit by tea lights and antique lanterns. Upstairs is the VIP section, which has the same vibe but with cushier banquettes lined with piles of velvety pillows. Bottle service is available for high-rollers while cocktails like pomegranate martinis and Moroccan mojitos and bottles from a small international wine list are available for everybody else. Chef Jonathan Lindenauer (formerly of Jean-Georges) prepares a Moroccan-influenced menu which includes dishes like lamb tagine, pan-seared red snapper and merguez sausage sandwiches. Katra regularly holds special events like After Work Mixer Mondays, with two-for-one well drinks and $5 beers before 8pm, and karaoke on Tuesdays, where buying two drinks will get you one song.—Keith Wagstaff
