Thanks to Kaleidoscope, losing the little ones for a while has never been easier (for you) or more fun (for them). This creative workshop, a KC institution since the '60s, is a fantastically colorful space where kids are encouraged to explore the whimsical surroundings as they paint with melted crayons, decorate paper hats and kites, or make puzzles using thin white cardboard that feeds into a hand-cranked machine to be cut into pieces. Kaleidoscope has independent art sessions for kids ages 5 to 12 (no grown-ups allowed). It also offers family art sessions for kids of all ages and their adults. The independent art sessions last about an hour or so — just enough time to shop at neighboring Crown Center and enjoy some kid-free time.
