Description

Juanita's has been in this choice location just west of the Pearl Street Mall since 1983 and has been serving some of Boulder's favorite Mexican food ever since. Among the most popular offerings are the chiles rellenos, lightly fried Anaheim chiles stuffed with Jack cheese and smothered in a hot green chile, and the cheese and onion enchiladas, topped with a traditional red-chile sauce. But half of the draw at Juanita's is the lively atmosphere, and you can have a good time here just nibbling on chips and fresh salsa while downing a margarita or two. Other Mexican joints come and go every day in this town, but you can count on Juanita's to still be here manana.

After nearly thirty years, Juanita's in Boulder goes dark

For the past 28 years, Juanita's has been a Pearl Street mainstay, holding on to its sliver of storefront space that led to a well-worn front dining room and back lounge, even as other establishments ... More »

Before I moved to Denver a year ago, I'd taken a few turns through Colorado while satisfying my interstate lust. Many of my travels took me through Boulder, and every time I hit that city, Juanita's (see review) was the first place I stopped. ... More »

  • 2005 | Best Bar for Chips and Salsa

In many cases -- okay, in every case -- the most important thing influencing our appreciation of a Mexican joint's chips and salsa is the environment in which they're served. The best-tasting chips and salsa on the planet do nothing for us if they're dished up, say, by the sample ladies at the local Sam's Club. That's why we're such fans of Juanita's. This Boulder institution is basically a chips-and-salsa kind of bar, the sort of place where you want to collapse into one of the tall-backed... More »
