Description

Over the fifty years that Johnson's Corner has been in business, it's collected accolades of a variety that most restaurants don't even dream about. Its name was read into the 106th Congressional Record as an example of "the industrious spirit and can-do attitude that have made America great." The Food Network dubbed it one of the top five truck stops in the country. And in 1998, it was picked as one of the best breakfast spots in the world by Travel & Leisure. We don't disagree.

Paul Ryan loves a challenge -- but a Johnson's Corner cinnamon roll?

Paul Ryan is a marathon man. The Republican vice-presidential candidate runs them (although his time is in dispute) and he's been on a marathon campaign trip through all the swing states, including Co... More »

Johnson's Corner celebrates 59 years in business

Johnson's Corner, the legendary diner at 2842 Southeast Frontage Road at I-25's exit 254 (just north of Berthoud), is starting its sixtieth year in business. To celebrate 59 years well done, Johnson's... More »

    Cornered

There was a time when I would've argued that Johnson's Corner (I-25 at exit 254, north of the Berthoud exit) was the perfect diner, better than the Peppermill in Vegas, the State Diner in Ithaca, that joint on Telegraph Road in Detroit where I... More »

    The Truck Stops Here

My buddy Gracie and I have this map -- a U.S. highway diagram torn from the front of an old Rand McNally atlas, showing all of the major interstate routes spooling out across the fruited plain. From I-95's start in Florida's malarial salt bogs to... More »

  • 2006 | BEST CINNAMON ROLLS

It's comforting to know that some things in the world never change. The sun will rise, the sun will set, and now and forever, Johnson's Corner will make the best cinnamon rolls known to man. Since 1952, this family-owned and -operated truck stop has been serving down-home, King of the Road cuisine to hungry truckers, travelers and wanderers of every description. And while a recent overhaul has rendered it nearly unrecognizable from the Johnson's Corner that generations of road people came to... More »

  • 2005 | Best Breakfast Measured by Weight

We brake for Johnson's Corner. After fifty years, this truck stop got a remodel that made it a shiny examplar of chrome-plate efficiency. But while its look has been updated, this landmark continues to serve the kind of breakfasts that have kept truckers going, and going, for the past fifty years. Nothing the kitchen does is small. It turns out gigantic cinnamon rolls, huge portions of hash-brown potatoes, massive omelettes, enormous plates of corned beef hash and slabs of chicken-fried... More »
