This 30-year-old gay dance club just west of downtown Fort Lauderdale on Broward Boulevard has two very different sides. The "Johnny's" side, which opens at 6 p.m. daily, includes a large central bartop and red-lit platforms at either end of the room. The platforms hold the performances of male dancers, who range from slightly built lad-like men to more muscular creatures. During the daytime and on weeknights, the lighter Rainbow Lounge side, which opens at 3 p.m. daily, is a casual gay bar with a local vibe and a kitchen that serves burgers, sandwiches, wraps, and chicken wings. The Rainbow Lounge, with its central dance floor and tens of silver disco balls, turns into a dance club on weekend nights. On Fridays, the Rainbow Lounge hosts DJ TPRO, who spins mostly hip-hop and Latin music, and legendary drag performer Kevin Aviance emcees the weekly party, according to owner Sean David. On Saturday night, the DJ spins mostly house music. Other weekly events include karaoke on Sunday night and senior night every Wednesday, when those 50 and older get 50-cent wings and drinks from 8 to 10 p.m.
