Joan's on Third, with a quaint layout of marble counters, white tile floors and antique communal tables, is a gourmet marketplace, café and full service catering company. The menu ranges from Joan's signature omelet to baked goods, cheeses, meats, sauces, dips, dressings, chips and more.
In a city where nobody walks, here's a street that imminently walkable. While our low stucco architecture bears no resemblance to the brownstones of New York City, Third Street -- between La Cienega a... More »

What is a grilled cheese sandwich? It's comfort food. It's warm and retro-yet-now and endlessly customizable. It's something that can be lowbrow, high-end and everything in between. How is it defined... More »
Just like mom used to make -- if mom were a gourmet cook who baked fresh bread every morning and made jam from wild local strawberries she had foraged herself. "Mom," in this case, is Joan's on Third,... More »

In the nearly 17 years since she opened Joan's on Third, Joan McNamara has baked through every layer-cake trend, cupcake craze and pie fixation. They may not win all the blogger buzz in these bacon ice... More »
The best sandwiches in LA. And the the best place to accidentally bump into a star like Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston or Sharon Stone.
Their expanded space has become one of the best gourmet markets in the city. It is one of my favorite guilty pleasures to make a meal out of their creamy robiola cheese, truffle foie gras, and a baguette. In addition to their amazing deli and cheese counters and baked goods, they also sell everything from oils and spices to baking mixes and pastas to snacks and candies to loads of their branded pre-made sauces and soups in the freezer section. You basically wish you could buy the whole place and make it your pantry. If you just can't wait till you get home to sample the goods, you can always grab a bite at their eat-in restaurant - the turkey meatloaf with chipotle sauce is a great riff on the classic favorite.
Great for shopping anything American.
