Description

Jimmy'z 50-seat interior, viewable from the street through floor-to-ceiling windows, beckons with an urban-industrial appeal electrified by orange walls and other bright highlights. Because the ambiance is so cheery and sleek, and because diners are required to order at the counter, the place resembles a next-generation fast-food chain. But the cuisine here is cooked slowly - and with care. Everything we tasted was fresh and flavorful. Most popular of the entrée salads seems to be the jerked chicken composition of field greens with tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, and mango slices; the chicken breast was thickly, darkly, and piquantly crusted with jerk spices. Bolitas de queso, or fried cheese balls with guava sauce, are addictive; panini sandwiches are served on crisply grilled multigrain bread; shrimp creole and Cuban mojo-marinated pork are outrageously delicious. Mofongo, the Puerto Rican ode to plantains, protein, and garlic, is better here than anywhere else in Miami. Prices are more than fair - everything under $20 and lots of good eats, such as a country beef stew, under $10. Churrasco steak with chimichurri, rice, beans, and whole fried plantains is the most expensive item ($16.50). Yes, it's tasty too. An extremely wide range of soft drinks and beers, boutique wines by the bottle, and a friendly, relaxed, ambiance make Jimmy'z in Wynwood a real gem.

  • 2011 | Best Restaurant Spinoff

The original Jimmy'z Kitchen has long provided freshly cooked meals from its tiny, weathered location in a little, rickety strip mall on Alton Road in Miami Beach. The venue is easy to pass without noticing, which is probably why lots of SoBe natives don't even know it exists. But the new Jimmy'z, on the ground floor of the Cynergi Building in Wynwood, is different. It's hard to believe it's a spinoff of the Alton Road classic. The place is so bright, shiny, and colorful that it looks a bit... More »
