Description

The latest offering from the Maharlika team bills itself as a "Filipino gastropub," serving modern renditions of traditional Pinoy dishes. The food is rowdy and rustic, and if duck fetus is your thing then you'll be delighted to know they serve it here with gusto. Use your fingers to scoop up sharply flavored pieces of "defeated chicken," sinking in an anise and black bean sauce, and served with an almost-candied pig's foot. Don't miss the arroz caldo, a dish that sings with garlic and is reminiscent of silky grits. Jeepney isn’t trying to be elegant -- portions are monstrous and the colorful space is cheekily decorated with topless vintage pin-ups -- so sip a weak-and-sweet cocktail out of a plastic tumbler or put back copious amounts of beer. --Tejal Rao
