A snazzy, five-table little deli right in the middle of the sweet spot of Eat Street, the Jasmine Deli is the sweet spot of choice for much of the Vietnamese community. Put a Vietnamese coffee on the table, and you'd swear you're taking an afternoon shopping break in Hanoi. Except that everyone speaks English, the giant bowls of soup are made with sliced chicken breast, and the banh mi sandwiches (the best on Minneapolis's side of the river) come prettily cut on the bias on fetching little platters. It's hard to find a restaurant that serves filling food that actually tastes good for under $5. And no, the McDonald's dollar menu does not count. Jasmine Deli, a tiny Vietnamese restaurant with some of the best Asian food in town, easily fits the bill. The spring rolls come with mock duck, pork, or seafood and will set you back only $3. Order any of the delicious salads for around $5 and you'll get an enormous bowl filled with noodles, lettuce, fresh cilantro, jalapeño peppers, and... More »
A tiny little underdog with a tiny little menu and great big bowls, Jasmine Deli is one of the biggest satisfactions of the past year. The beef bùn noodle salad boasts a dozen components of startling freshness, the bánh m" sandwiches are creative and prettily presented (and cost less than $3). Details of greatness abound: Meatball soups are flecked with smoky bits of fried garlic; chicken noodle soups are made with tasty top-shelf chicken; spring rolls are twisted to order;... More »
